David Mahlstedt Funeral Director, US Army Veteran

David joined the William Snyder Funeral Homes in April 2014, and supervises the

Forgie-Snyder Funeral Home in East McKeesport. David, his wife Tricia, and their

two wonderful children, are long-time residents of Forest Hills, PA and are members

of Saint Maurice Catholic Church.

David was a member of the U.S. Army Old Guard unit from 1990 till 1993. During

this time, he was involved in many ceremonies with President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton.

He was part of the military escort for foreign dignitary visits that included laying wreaths at the Tomb of the

Unknown Soldier and their visits to the White House and Pentagon. He also had the opportunity to guard

the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and participated in hundreds of military funerals at Arlington National

Cemetery in Washington, D.C. including the funerals for the active duty Army deaths that occurred during

the Persian Gulf War.

After his military service, he enjoyed a long and successful career in transportation sales throughout North

America. During this time his travels took him to 49 of the 50 states and most of Canada.

Remembering his military service, he desired to return to the funeral process to help families during their

time of need. He completed his funeral director training at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in

2012. There he earned an Associate’s Degree with honors in funeral management, as well as becoming a

CANA certified cremation operator.

He is a current member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors

Association and is the Secretary of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association.

His experience and compassion while helping hundreds of families solidified that this is his life’s calling.

This program has been approved for 2 hours continuing education credit by the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service.
